I finally received a shipment for an item I ordered 6 months ago for our home build that wasn’t anticipated to ship until April. I was not prepared for an early shipment with neither myself or the builder there to receive it. Mike called me ahead of time for my delivery and I expected to just be denied delivery because I wasn’t prepared. However, Mike went above and beyond and after giving instruction on how to get through the gate and a drop location that was secure until I could get home to tend to it. He carefully unloaded my skid in the loose gravel with his pallet jack (next to impossible) and followed up with me to verify the delivery. I couldn’t have asked for better service!
They were late to drop off my trailer because of "staffing issues". I spent nearly 20 minutes giving detailed instructions on where and how I would like the trailer positioned because I would not be present when it would be being dropped off. Well to little surprise it was not where I asked it to be. The driver Steve says "if I were gonna do this this is how I'd do it" and proceeded to place the truck where HE thought it should go. All this time he is telling this to my 77 year old grandmother who is trying to relay to him that I wanted the truck in a very specific place for a reason, but Steve knew better. Fast forward from that Friday to the following Monday, I call to have the trailer picked up well, it isn't, Tuesday comes still have a trailer, Wednesday comes and goes, still have a trailer. Thursday morning Steve shows back up. My grandmother is outside and expresses to him again my specific instructions on how I would like him to remove the trailer. I have a conduit pipe and septic system that are about 40 yards apart from each other giving a plenty large enough area to place or remove a 28' trailer from 8 acres of property. My instructions where specific, do not ruin my septic or my conduit pipe I don't care about the grass. Well Steve says he knows what he is doing and doesn't need to be told. Steve decided that driving over my conduit pipe was fine and he was just gonna go ahead and do that because, "he knows what he is doing" well now I have a smashed conduit pipe in a house I just bought last week! Thanks Steve and ABF for your outstanding ability to follow directions
Best company to have when you need something transported from one location to another. Staff and drivers are all polite and professional. Their rates are good.
Customer service relations seem to be well-ran. I did not have to wait on hold any longer than 5 minutes and the person who helped me seemed to genuinely care about my business. The reason for the low rating is that the terminal and dock employees are as careless as they come. After only a month of using this company for shipments, we have had 2 damaged shipments and 1 that was lost completely. We ship maybe an item a week, so that means out of roughly 8 shipments, a little under half of them have either been lost or severely damaged. A company is only as strong as its weakest link. If I had to make a suggestion, I would say the company seriously needs to boost the moral of its dock employees because if I had to guess, the culture is one of low standards and carelessness, and although that is typical of most corporatized trucking companies, ABF seems to be worst than the rest of them.
I spoke with the terminal manager for Ft. Smith. He was rude, disrespectful and dismissive. He actually laughed at me on the phone. I called ABF call center to try and get around this yahoo because I never for a minute imagined the rude person I had dealt with was in management. When they patched me through to the terminal manager, yep, same unprofessional person. I will avoid doing business with ABF in the future.
