Situated at the mouth of the Mystic River, the Paul W. Conley Terminal serves as a prominent container terminal in the bustling Port of Boston, Massachusetts. Notably, it is positioned ten nautical miles from the harbor buoy, optimizing accessibility.
Infrastructure and Capacity
Boasting two 50-foot berths with a dredged depth of 47 feet, the terminal has undergone recent enhancements amounting to $850 million. These improvements have substantially deepened the port and expanded the turning basin, enabling the accommodation of large container vessels.
Transportation Infrastructure
To enhance ground transportation, the port has introduced a dedicated freight haul road. However, for rail service, freight needs to be transported a few miles by truck to reach the rail station, highlighting the intermodal nature of the terminal.
Cargo Handling and Storage
In 2021, the Paul W. Conley Terminal efficiently managed 187,902 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units). With an impressive average of 50,000 vehicles per year, the terminal provides extensive vehicle storage across 80 acres. This multifaceted capacity makes it a pivotal hub for various types of cargo.

- Entrance Requirements
- Individual: Access to Conley Terminal requires a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) and Massport Maritime Credentials which can be obtain by presenting a TWIC. Conley Terminal has a “NO VEST/NO ENTRY” policy
- Vehicles: Drivers are required to wear a reflective garment such as a vest, shirt or jacket while at the Terminal. Those noted without the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be escorted off the premises by Port Police.
